Risien Park can be found on the east edge of San Saba off of Highway 190 to Lampasas. The park has much San Saba river frontage and is great for swimming, fishing and family picnics. The entire area is shaded by Pecan trees so even on hot days the majority of areas are cool enough for people to enjoy themselves.
There is a pavilion at the eastern corner, an amphitheater, bar-bq pits, a river swing, playground equipment, and a volleyball area (the v-ball net can be obtained by contacting the city). One fact about the park that some frequent visitors might be unaware of is the telephone post play equipment in the south-eastern corner across the small black arched bridge which has a 365 degree rotating tire-swing as well as a slide.
A good picnic spot can be found with minimal walking because there is a circular drive around the entire area.
As a note of warning ::Those people who choose to swing on the wheel swing that casts over the river-please be aware of low-areas and scope out the depth before swinging:: Oh - and look out for the rock near the bank under water... I have stumped a many toes on it.
