San Saba was settled in 1854 and named for its location on the San Saba River; it is located in east central San Saba County, and became the county seat in 1856. By 1884, the town had four churches, two schools, a sawmill, gristmill, a bank, and a population of 800. The population steadily grew to 3,390 by 1950. In the beginning San Saba shipped pecans, cattle, sheep, turkey, wool, and cotton. To this day, San Saba is primarily a ranching town.

Mill Pond ParkTributary Waterfall

Mill Pond Park includes a small spring-fed pond that is home to many ducks including: Mallards, Muscovies, Wood Ducks, and many more, multiple waterfalls, the Pecan pool,where many children have spent hours upon hours during the hot summer days, and picnic sites with bar-b-que pits. Mill pond also has three baseball fields, a track, a pavilion, a community center, and two different playgrounds.

Risien Park is set right on the San Saba River. During the warm Texas days you may find many families fishing and swiming in the river, playing volleyball or washers, playing on the playground, or just simply enjoying the natural setting.
